A Bold and Bright Jewel Toned Wedding Cake
To say that we were memorized by Amy’s bright and bold color palette and wedding style would be an understatement. With watermelon pink, bright Amalfi orange, and a touch of bright green, Amy’s color wedding was anything but ordinary.
Dare I Say Mad Hatter Tea Party Meets Stately Newport, RI?
Since this was a second wedding, Amy was all about fun!
Typically we see a pastel color palette with weddings in stately ballroom at Oceancliff. Or we’ll see bold colors, but they will be more moody.
For Amy, she envisioned a Caribbean, summer loving cake but with classic touches. After chatting through designs we decided that it was an Alice in Wonderland tea party meets old New England style.
A Four Tiered Wedding Cake That Makes a Statement
Amy envisioned a cake that made a statement. She remarked: “I want my guests to walk in and say, WOW! But I’m also older, so I don’t want it to look like a child’s birthday cake.”
Narrowing Down the Cake Design
After looking through our past work Amy loved the following details
scrollwork: the little C&S pattern piped onto the frosting
pearl shimmer: a neutral metallic color that we paint onto the cake surface
stripes and tiny flowers: reminiscent of an Alice in Wonderland cake
fresh flowers on the top of the cake
a three and a half tiered cake shape: that features variation in tier height
The Sketch of Amy’s Cake
We decided on the details in the sketch above! You’ll notice a ‘floral worksheet’ is included, these are flowers that the florist leaves at your wedding venue and then we’ll put the flowers onto the cake when we arrive for your wedding cake delivery.
Stripes and Flowers and Elegant Scrollwork
The top tiers of the cake features overlay white pearl sheen stripes with tiny white sugar flowers placed in between. The second tier includes a scrollwork pattern which are the “C” and “S” shapes impressed onto the cake. A custom monogram in silver is placed on the side of the cake.
Shimmering Pearl and Textured Buttercream
The middle layer of this fanciful and bold colorful wedding cake includes a modern accent in a shorter tier. The short tier is painted with a shimmer pearl color. Think of the color and sheen on a real pearl necklace!
The bottom tier includes a trowel texture frosting, this is reminicent of ocean waves and mimics the texture of the granite walls in the Oceancliff Ballroom.
Bold and Bright, Colorful Flowers
An arrangement of bright gerbera daisies, chartreuse green hypericum berries, valencia orange gerbera daisies and pistachio greenery and lime hydrangeas add a bold statement to a white cake. Amy’s florist provided the most lush stems of flowers that we added to the cake.
